Final Shoot

These are 6 of my favourite images from my final shoot. I think these images are firm strong and powerful. With elements of femininity giving a fragile feel. Which conflicts with the strong army like fatigues in the images. The solid eye contact helps to bolden the image which is what I plan to have on the front cover of my magazine, quoting 'Be bold'. The model is emphasising a cool and quiet atmosphere however comes across as wicked and vigorous. The statement jewellery helps to create an urban and edgy style which is daring and striking. She looks like a style icon as well as an up and coming music artist which is the exact theme I was trying to portray. The images are simple yet depict raw quality, less is more, showing that visual simplicity is enhancing the strength of the image. I have deliberately chosen specific tones to create the tough girl image against the soft darker background, this also reflects the stunning blue eyes.

When editing these images the lighting was so smooth that they did not need as much airbrushing as I thought they would. I went through three main elements when editing- airbrushing, enhancing the eye colour and changing the lip size in liquify. Overall I am really happy with the final outcomes, I think that the atmosphere was perfect for the style I was aiming for. I made sure the model was happy and comfortable with everything, kept music on so she felt relaxed and overall I do think that this made a difference with my images. She looks confident and poised which was perfect and exactly what I wanted. If i was to re-do the shoot I would play around with even moodier lighting and go further with using props, jewellery, styling and make-up; although even with less of that I think the shoot went just as planned and as well as i'd anticipated and envisioned it to.

This is an article from a recent music issue of i-D magazine. I have taken my main inspiration from it, styling my model along the lines of Rihanna and creating a moody atmosphere. I would have liked to go out on location and shoot like these images have been if I had more time however I don't think that this was necessary as my final shoot worked well within the studio.

I had been inspired by the jewellery and braids and I was so happy when I found out Nayana would have braids for my final shoot.

These are my two final pieces above. I am extremely pleased with the outcome of the images as I was not expecting my recently learnt photography skills to turn out as well as they did. An element of trying to replicate a magazine cover was getting the fonts and styles exactly the same. I have noticed that a lot of the typography does not have capital letters and I have tried to include this in my images. I am ecstatic about how my final images turned out and I think the photograph I chose to go on the front cover was a perfect composition with the right amount of negative space and poise with the hood of the coat covering her left eye working along side the wink of i-D. The writing worked perfectly around how she is posed and the 'Be bold' works so well in relation to the hard style of the image.

I took my main inspiration for the cover and inside of the magazine from a recent music issue for i-D featuring Rihanna, a huge star and massive style icon. I wanted to try and replicate this in my own style, as well as taking inspiration from LaChapelle, Oldham and Richardson. I picked the inside image because I love how she is standing, so casually however strong and independent- throwing out attitude towards the viewer. I have placed one image over the other because I wanted to put my own spin on it, giving you more to look at, and I have used the two quotes from the issue of i-D that Rihanna features in, as I thought it worked so well with my images.

I hope my images depict a moment in time, a reflection of choices be they influenced by photographers and magazines. Relating to urban grunge and street style, trendy youthfulness. My picture, I hope tells a story not just a fashion shoot. I have tried to fuse all of the different elements I have learnt to create a powerful and thought provoking image.
